Screendollars covers the movie business: box office, releases, and the industry around them. In entertainment publishing, the queries that carry real audience volume are owned by a handful of large publishers, and every reader lost in search is ad revenue that never arrives.

In July 2021, the site drew roughly 500 organic visits per month (593 recorded in June 2021), with a Domain Authority of 10. Screendollars came to Mavlers to build an organic channel from near zero, one that could compete with the biggest publishers in its niche and hold up as discovery shifts toward AI answer engines.

Client Objectives

The challenges Screendollars faced

1.
Negligible organic visibility

Roughly 500 visits per month meant the site was effectively absent from the queries its audience was searching.

2.
Low authority

A Domain Authority of 10 (Moz) meant the site could not compete for commercially valuable entertainment terms, whatever it published.

3.
Dated experience

Weak engagement signals and limited conversion pathways undercut the few pages that did rank.

4.
Narrow content coverage

Competitors owned the highest-traffic categories in the niche, celebrity content above all, which Screendollars had not entered.

5.
No presence in AI answer engines

As discovery began shifting toward ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google's AI surfaces, the site had no citation footprint and no content structured to earn one.

Mavlers Strategy

How we built an organic channel from near zero

Five coordinated workstreams, sequenced deliberately: experience and on-page foundations first, so every new page and link are compounded instead of leaking.

1.
Redesigned the site around engagement

A modern, engagement-first interface with cleaner navigation and faster paths to content. Stronger dwell time and pages per session reinforced ranking performance.

2.
Optimized the existing page inventory

Audited and upgraded existing pages across design, content depth, and CRO. Tighter on-page relevance and internal linking widened each page's keyword set.

3.
Opened the Celebs category competitors owned

Competitor category analysis identified celebrity content as the biggest untapped opportunity. A dedicated Celebs category opened a new, high-volume demand stream.

4.
Built a publishing engine for search and AI citations

Consistent, search-intent-driven blog content structured to earn citations in Google and in AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews).

5.
Ran a sustained authority link-building campaign

High-authority, niche-relevant backlinks via ongoing outreach, building 2,900 linking root domains and lifting Domain Authority from 10 to 37.

What Screendollars achieved

‍

‍

‍

First-party validation and the content engine

The client's own Google Analytics 4 confirms the curve the third-party tools describe: organic search climbed from a few hundred sessions per month at the start of the engagement to 372,984 organic search sessions in June 2026, out of 515,052 total sessions, roughly 72% of everything the site receives.

The content engine did the heaviest lifting.

Over the trailing 16 months, blog pages alone earned 174K clicks from 7.06M impressions in Google Search Console, a 2.5% average CTR at an average position of 11: the compounding return on sustained, search-intent-driven publishing.

‍

AI visibility and citations

The publishing and structured-content work also broke Screendollars into AI answer engines from a standing start: 208 AI mentions, 6.7K citations in AI outputs, and roughly 3,000 cited pages. Google AI Overviews alone drive over half of all mentions (52.4%), placing the site directly inside the answers users now see first.

AI engine Mentions Cited pages
Google AI Overview 109 793
Gemini 58 1,900
Google AI Mode 39 1,100
ChatGPT 2 335
Total 208 ~3K (deduplicated)

The honest read: mentions concentrate in the US (84.6%), and the absolute AI Visibility score sits at 15/100, a fair reflection of how new AI-citation optimization is for every publisher, and the clearest growth runway. The footprint is established and skewed toward the highest-value surface, AI Overviews.

The insights

Why it worked

  1. Foundations first - Fixing UX and on-page quality before scaling content and links meant every new page and every new link compounded rather than leaked.
  2. Demand capture -Β The new Celebs category and the blog program moved the site into the highest-volume queries in its niche instead of competing at the margins.
  3. Authority to compete -Β A Domain Authority jump from 10 to 37 unlocked rankings that were previously out of reach for the site, whatever it published.
  4. Future-proofed discovery -Β Structuring content for AI and LLM citation positioned Screendollars for the shift from classic search to answer engines while it was still early.

Why this matters: discovery is shifting from ten blue links to AI-generated answers. Establishing a citation footprint now, before most niche publishers have, gives Screendollars a foothold as user behavior moves toward ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's AI surfaces.
